PC doesn't post with 2 RAM sticks but does with 1? Dead CPU?

2020.09.25 17:41 Poirlloin PC doesn't post with 2 RAM sticks but does with 1? Dead CPU?

Some really weird inconsistent problems occured with my PC. Can you please take a look and see if you could help me out? Thanks in advance and excuse my English. :)

My pc has worked fine past 6 months. Specs are down at the bottom of this post.

This all started with me finding some dead LEDs in my ARGB fans, I took them out and put in some non RGB fans while I send the ARGB ones back to the factory.

Next, I tried to boot up my system to find out the LED on my mobo was stuck on DRAM. I took out 3 of the RAM sticks and kept one in the A2 slot. It booted fine but when I tried it with more RAM, it now kept getting stuck at the CPU light on my mobo. Booted up my pc with 1 ram stick and updated my bios to the newest one, took a while so figured I could go and grab a coffee, 3 minutes later I went to take a look at my pc, to find it turned on but the red CPU light was on again on my motherboard. I guess it automatically rebooted after the bios update? Now I left it running for about 20 minutes as I know nothing good can happen if u power down the pc while in the middle of a bios update but the screen remained black and the cpu led stayed on.

Tried to boot it afterwards with 1 RAM stick in the A2 slot but with no luck, it wouldn't even boot with 1 stick and it was now getting stuck on the CPU light every time I tried to boot.

I decided I maybe could have shorted or damaged anything on my mobo while exchanging my fans? I've been really careful but you never know, so I ordered the same motherboard but a new one.

One day forward I got the new motherboard, also an ASUS Prime x570 pro. I install my 4 sticks of ram, cpu, gpu etc on the new motherboard as a testbench and guess what, same problem occurs, stuck on CPU LED. That was pretty much obvious to me that it was my CPU. I tried to boot with 1 stick of RAM in the mobo in the A2 slot and guess what? It just boots. I tried it with all the RAM sticks in the A2 slots and they all work, it looks like my cpu just can't handle to manage 4 sticks of my ram? Problem couldn't be the motherboard since the problem occured on both of them and all of my RAM sticks work.

I tried to put one more ramstick next to it (keeping 1 slot in between) and it has very inconsistent results. Some times when I power it on, the LEDs on the mobo show: white VGA LED, or dram, then CPU and then cpu light just goes off but the next one in the row, vga, wouldn't turn on and it won't boot. Or it would just get stuck on CPU again.

I contacted the warranty fulfillment for AMD since I think the problem would be my CPU.

I followed the steps clearing cmos and rtc but with no luck. Also turning off and on XMP didn't change anything for me.

Now I got 2 main questions to anyone with a little more advanced knowledge of my problem:

  1. Coming back to that BIOS update I ran yesterday on my old x570, i did not see the update finish. Does the pc reboot after a bios update? Since when I came back after starting the update, it looked like it had rebooted since the screen was black and the LED on my mobo showed a CPU error. Is this mobo dead now or what? Since it doesn't even boot with 1 RAM stick in it but before the BIOS update it would. I don't have another set of RAM or a CPU to test it. Should I send it to RMA?

  1. Is there anything else I could have done wrong to somehow damage my CPU while getting some fans out of my case? I worked anti statically with the power cord in my psu but the psu turned off etc.

  1. Do you think the problem could be my CPU or something else?

  1. Should I buy a Ryzen 3 to test both of the motherboards or just send out my old x570 mobo and cpu for RMA?

Thank you so much for reading, any help is very much appreciated!

Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X (not overclocked)
New and old MOBO: ASUS Prime X570 Pro
RAM: 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHz
GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 Super XC Ultra Edition.
PSU: CoolerMaster 850 full modular
AIO: Deepcool Captain 360x

2020.09.25 16:52 TheDanSignal30 Update 1: Forgetting to take my antidepressants

I’m going to start numbering my updates for people who want to keep track. I’ll post more updates if something significant happens, or if I’ve made significant progress with my phenibut taper. It’s only been a little over a day since my last post on here, but I may have found one of the reasons why my mental health had made a sharp nose dive. I’ve been forgetting to take my antidepressants. I usually take 20mg of Prozac every night before bed for my depression and anxiety. When I first started taking phenibut, I’ve had a little trouble with remembering to take my Prozac too, but I’d never go much more than a day or two without it and I’d still remember to take it most days. However, during my taper, I think I’ve gone 2 or more days in a row without it, go back on it for a day or two, then maybe go another 2 or 3 days without it. My anxiety and depression have been getting much worse, and I’ve been having more nightmares. Last night I took my first Prozac in I don’t know how long, and even though I only slept for about 4 hours, the nightmares weren’t as intense and I don’t feel as bad as I did yesterday. Not completely functional, but a marginal improvement. I’m going to take another Prozac tonight and if I feel better tomorrow morning, I’ll continue my taper. Rn I’m on 3.6gpd and I’m hoping to continue my 100mg daily taper.

2020.09.25 16:43 CatD4wg Unpopular Opinion: The F2P update is actually really healthy for the game and I'm glad a lot of these changes were implemented as they were long overdue.

The amount of "EPIG GAMES BAD" "LIEONIX" "OMG NO FORTNITE IN MY ROCKET LEAGUE" cringe in this subreddit is so pathetic. Being bitter over little things and not acknowledging the objective improvements from this update is delusion and (mostly) irrational biases against epic-games. It's almost impressive how much this subreddit can manage to complain after this update when it improved a lot of things.
- Tournaments are really fun and have incentive to play the game and improve
- Challenges are a huge improvement over the previous system because they don't force you to do dumb chores like spamming quick chats or playing with a random topper but are rather do-able just by playing the game
- New UI makes the game look new again (it's not a huge improvement usability wise but it freshens up the game)
- Free to play is bringing a lot more new players to this game which will revive the trading market as well as bring new competition to ranked/esports (1.1m concurrent is insane)
- The new ranks are cool and finally separate professional players from regular grand champs. Personally, they have revitalized my competitive spirit to reach supersonic legend after hitting grand champ 3 seasons in a row and being demotivated to improve.
However, one thing that I am concerned about with the transition to the Epic Games store is steam workshop and bakkesmod support in the long run. Currently, those seem to be Steam exclusives and I'm afraid they might drop support in the future. I think the transparency regarding steam workshop has been really poor and I would really like to hear if it's going anywhere since I and many other players still use it daily for training and being unable to use it would be a huge dealbreaker.
Regarding the XP changes, I'm kinda sad that my big level number is going to get larger a lot slower, but overall im happy with the change. With the previous XP system, the Rocket Pass was something you would complete in 2-3 weeks and then you'd be left waiting for the next one for 4 months while your inventory gets cluttered with painted variants of RP items that just go straight to the archive.
Overall, the little changes they've made to make acquiring cosmetics more difficult are definitely shady, but the upgrades to the core game have definitely made the game a lot better as a whole and will definitely make it last a lot longer.

2020.09.25 15:33 postvasectomy Mike_C: So many times, I have felt like my life is totally ruined. And my pain a lot of the time is not too bad, but its just always "there".

15 days before vasectomy
Well, after doing my research on the net, reading posts here for what seems like ages, and waiting a month to get in to see the doc, I had my first consult today. I seemed to like him well enough, he looked 40ish, not right out of school, but not some old timer.
I'm 41, in fairly good health, two teenage kids, married for 17.5 years. My wife has been on me for a few years for the vas, and I've been putting it off, but we clearly don't want any more kids now.
When we talked about long term pain, which is my NUMBER ONE concern, he said that IHO that most complications are from sloppy, hurried work where nerves are damaged or sewn up.
Mar 14, 2003
7 days before vasectomy
I called my doc back and had a talk about open vs. closed, pain complications, etc. He was honest about it, said yes, you can develop back pressure problems, but quite often they are related to infections.
He said he has just been working with a guy who had one done by another doc, and has had non-stop pain since for the past 3 months, he hasn't even been able to go back to work. He said he and other docs think is epididymitis. They have tried conservative treatments, but nothing has worked, they have sent him to specialist at the U of Michigan for further help. It sounds like my doc is somebody people go to first after they have problems with procedures done by others, at least in my local area.
When I asked him what he would do for me if I had backpressure problems, would he convert it to open-ended, he said he still would not favor it, besides the typical conservative treatments first, he would rather go to reversal.
He did want to stress that that none of "his guys" have had these complications (but kept saying, "knock on wood", so he sort of admits he has been lucky) and he says he has done probably close to 1,000 procedures over the years.
Basically, IMO he seems to be saying most problems come from poor procedure/inexperienced docs.

Mar 28, 2003
Well, I'm now one week post vas.
For review, I did a lot of research and reading online, and at first was totally paranoid about getting a vas, something my wife had wanted me to get for a few years, but I never seemed to get around to looking into it.
I thought the day went off with out a hitch, and I was totally out of it while everything was being done. And in the first 48 hours, I was almost pain free. However, by Sunday afternoon I started to feel a slight pain in the left testicle, nothing real bad, but it has persisted since then off and on.
Hard to describe it, it has gotten to the point a couple of times where at worst I would call it "discomfort", but then it will sort of go away.
I've also developed by Tuesday night a sort of pulled muscle feeling that also sort of comes and goes at about my belt line, probably 2 to 3 inches to the left and below my belly button. I don't know if this is related to the vas, or I may have actually slightly strained a muscle or something, I've got a call into the doc to ask him about this but he hasn't yet called back.
I've yet to try the plumbing out though, I had planned on waiting a full week, so maybe this weekend.
I'm getting around fine, walking without any problems, going up and down stairs is not a concern, anything that is sort of normal daily activity does not cause any problems. But I've yet to try anything real physical other than that night with the soccer ball, I had hoped to start slowly getting back into my regular workout routine by this weekend, but I almost think I should wait for the strained muscle feeling in my abdomen to settle down.
Overall the experience has been probably better than average for me I would guess, as I've read so much of guys having what seems to be a fair amount of discomfort the first week or so.
The doc did call me back about the lower abdominal discomfort. He said that it is not unusual. He suggested if the discomfort is any worse, to add tylenol to the bextra I'm taking. But as of right now, I'm feeling pretty good, so I'll hold off until I think I may need it.

2 weeks after vasectomy
Not all has been well. Literally since I last updated, things went downhill. I don't know what happened, but my guess is it is related to the fact I used my equipment a couple of times to see if it still worked.
Starting on Monday, the pain I had that was coming and going on the lower left side went way up, and basically wouldn't go away. It would sort of go from a kicked feeling to a almost worse tingling/hit in the funny bone type feeling. Throughout the day it kept getting worse, and I added some tylenol for pain and tried the hot bath routine, that didn't seem to help. That night I was lucky if I slept one hour.
The next day, not much different, this radiating pain, followed by what almost feels like an electric shock sensation, and back and forth. The tight underwear I was wearing almost seemed to be making it worse so I went to boxers.
My thought was that I may have an infection on that side, but the doc didn't seem to think so. She simply had me describe the symptoms, did an exam, said there is a bit of swelling on the testicle on that side and said some "congestion" can be normal. She did give me a prescription for some Vicoprofen.
I took some of it that night, and after almost no sleep for a couple of days, it did knock me out. But I woke up in the middle of the night feeling quite uncomfortable again, took some more but didn't get much more sleep. Yesterday, the pain was about the same and I also felt sort of lousy from the Vicoprofen, almost a hangover feeling. That night I went back to try the hot bath and then the heavy drugs, and finally it did seem to help. I pretty much slept most of the night, and right now its sort of back to where I was a week ago.
The actual pain level and shock type feeling is a fair amount less, and is no longer constant; I feel like I can at least function again today.
Apr 11, 2003
I don't want to make this sound like a soap opera, but here is the THREE week update.
Basically, things have gotten much, much better. When I last updated, I said I was back to where I was before the pain flared up in a big way, which was some pain/discomfort that sort of comes and goes, but is not real bad. That lasted for about two days, then things have gotten progressively better.
At worst I would say right now I have just an occasional sensation that something is just a little different at the same spot where I had the worst pain, at best things feel just about normal. The most discomfort now almost seems to be from be the hair growing back.
I did try out the equipment one more time, quite fearfully I might add, and everything seemed fine, and I had no after effect that I could notice.
I'd say right now I'm about 99% back to normal. I've been jogging on the treadmill, lifting weights, sleeping fine.

6 weeks after vasectomy
Well, I guess I'll give another update since I saw the doc on Monday for my planned check up.
He said everything looked good, checked for a hernia as I said the most discomfort I have had up to then the past couple of weeks was that weird abdominal pulled muscle feeling. He said no hernia. Overall he said it takes at least 8 weeks and up to 12 for everything to finish healing/settling down.
I've been very active working out, doing yard work, coaching/playing with my son's soccer team. Things seemed to be back to normal.
HOWEVER, on Tuesday I started having more of an ache on the left side again that sort of hasn't gone away 100% since then. It's not nearly as bad as the pain I had in week two, but the location and sensation is the same. But if what I had on a scale of 1 to 10 before was a 10, this has been more like at worst a 3, 4 tops. I hope this is nothing major again, and will go away in a day or so.

10 weeks after vasectomy
I called him back and he said to step up the Advil, which I have been doing, and to come in to see him if things don't get better in a couple of weeks. Since that time I would say the Advil seem to helped somewhat, but its been almost constant discomfort. It has varied from being somewhat low, to being 2/3 to 3/4 of the worst of what I had in week two.
I've tried to stay active, I've worked out, played golf, coached my son's soccer team, it hasn't been too bad doing all this until the past few days. On Sunday night my daughter wanted to play 9 holes of golf, and I just was not up to it.
By the morning I felt better, and I went out and played on Memorial day. After 9 holes things started to hurt a fair amount and I took some more advil and that seemed to help a bit.
Today at my son's soccer I could run around OK, but it was uncomfortable at times (I have been wearing a jock with a protective cup with soccer), and now tonight things really don't feel very good at all.
In the past week or two sex seems to not interest me at all given how uncomfortable things are. And it seems that things did get worse after he gave me the all clear, as after that I had sex 2 days in a row a couple of times.
Overall, IMO it just seems that things are progressively getting worse. Its the same symptoms, but it seems to becoming more of a constant pain with no let up, just varying degrees. It is really starting to wear on me, I have trouble falling asleep many nights as I can't get comfortable (its past midnight right now, and I feel like tonight I might not sleep much at all), which makes me tired much of the time.
And having to deal with pain, even what many may call low level, still wears you out on a day to day basis.
I'm ready to call the doc and set up another appointment and see what he says. This is getting quite depressing actually. I really starting to think I'm going to be one of the "rare" (yeah, right) cases of PVP.
:^(
https://groups.google.com/g/alt.support.vasectomy/c/ffKQLhwgrWI/m/itAGlGD0IjwJ
I will say in the last couple of days, I feel better than I probably have in a couple of weeks.
I made it very clear to my doc that my NUMBER ONE CONCERN before hand was PVP. He seemed to acknowledge that some men do have problems, but he assured me none of his patients have experienced it.
So, I'm back to sort of where I was a month ago, things are more livable, I'm clearly not 100%, but I'm going to set another follow up with the doc this week.

3 months after vasectomy
It seems that after sex, within an hour, things get noticeably worse, and may take days to settle down. Thinking you may face days of pain and an inability to sleep sort of reduces your desire for sex.
I finally got in to see him this past Monday, and he wasn't sure what's going on. He finally decided to try antibiotics, gave me a prescription for Elavil for pain if that didn't clear things up, and talked about other options down the road, maybe testosterone, nerve blocks, etc., He would want to send me to somebody else for a second opinion too. Longer term he talked about a reversal if nothing else worked, but sounded real hesitant to go down that path.
The only symptom is a pain that comes and goes, sometimes mild, sometimes pretty bad. It also seems to be related to sexual activity, but not 100%.
BTW, where are you feeling this pain/"discomfort"?
It's on the lower left side, behind the testicle, right where the epididymis is located. With sometimes associated pain/tingling/weird sensation running right up from that location to about my belt line. The second part is what he calls associated pain, as the nerves run down from there to where the major discomfort is.
Anyway, I talked to him again, I told him the pain actually was almost completely gone after my three days on levequin (he prescribed 10 days), but the dizziness/room spinning effect is what got me to call him and had me worried. He said he "hands those out like candy around here", and usually most people have no problems with them, but a few people do. He said we would try another type of anti-biotic.
Last night he prescribed zithromax (Azithromycin) for 5 days, I'll see how this works. My diagnosis, if it is an infection, is that it sort of comes and goes, when it comes on, the pressure increases, the epididymis swells and puts pressure on a nerve that runs up into the abdomen.

7 months after vasectomy
Over the summer, while not clearly "cured", things did settle down a bit. But a couple of weeks before my six month follow up meeting the pain level started to increase again. Went to the doc, this time he went for testosterone to see if that would help, (androgel 5mg/day). He said if this doesn't do anything he is about out of answers other than reversal.
Well, its been about a month on the T, and if I had to say if it helps I would say yes. Overall, most of the time thing are not that bad at all, I would say at times I'm pretty close to pain-free. And when things seem to start to hurt, it doesn't last as long as before. I usually can find a position that feels good enough to fall asleep. Side effects of the testosterone sort of worry me though, but I don't have a history of prostate cancer in my family.
To me, I seem to be a "classic case" of backpressure problems. It's only on one side, seems to be very localized in the epididymis. If I have sex too soon after the last time, there seems to be more of a problem than if I spread things out over longer periods of time.

9 months after vasectomy
A couple of weeks ago I started back on some Natilus machines to build up some strength in my leg. Well, I also one day tried a machine I've used a lot in the past, but haven't in awhile (not since my vas), a leg machine where you spread your legs out, and then pull them back together.
Anyway, I did about 12 reps, it seemed OK, but as I stepped off, I felt as if somebody was stabbing me right up through the groin from below. It also seemed to go up to my waistline again, (my doc in the spring just said this was "referral" pain), and almost seemed to go down into my inner left thigh.
That sensation only lasted about 15 seconds, but IMO, something happened again.
Two days ago I had my 9 month follow up with the doc and told him of this. He checked for a hernia again, said he didn't think there was anything there, and that I still do have some slight swelling in the epididymis, but has seem people with much worse that didn't have much pain associated with it.
Now my question to you all is, does this sound like a nerve entrapment possibility? Because ever since that day a couple of weeks ago, things have gotten worse, as I say, much more like I had experience in the weeks and months post vas. I've even gone back to the vicodin/vicoprofen so I can get to sleep on a few nights as it has kept me awake.
My last hope was going to be a reversal, but if its a nerve problem, I don't know how much help a reversal would be...

10 months after vasectomy
So many times, I have felt like my life is totally ruined. And my pain a lot of the time is not too bad, but its just always "there". But there sure are times that it still is pretty bad. And it seems to increase when I lay down, making it even harder to sleep.
To be honest, sleep is the worst part for me. I've gone so many nights basically without sleep, or maybe nodding off for a little while at best. It just consumes your life, everything is affected.
I can gulp down massive amounts of coffee in the morning to get going, but my brain at work is in a total fog much of the time, and I've nodded off in the afternoon several times. Not good when your job is using your brain..
I'm now convinced that I have some sort of nerve injury/damage. Since my pain actually seems more right behind my left epididymis, I've never been sure. But exercising seems to make it worse, and I did something with weights a couple of months ago that gave me a stabbing pain, but also shot a pain up toward my belt line and down my leg a bit.
https://groups.google.com/g/alt.support.vasectomy/c/8xLWrOEoNjY/m/QUTj_3uHxjsJ
My uro, who did the procedure has tried all the standard protocols, anti-biotics, pain medication, testosterone, nothing seemed to be having a lasting positive impact. I had noticed that in general if I exercised, riding a bike, using a treadmill, I seemed to have more discomfort, and if I sat around and did nothing for a few days, things seemed better.
Anyway, the doc I went to was an abdominal surgeon who the uro referred me to.
I had been feeling pretty good for a number of days before, but that morning, the pinching type pain came back. He told me he had talked to my doctor, and said that they together have seen maybe 5 guys over the past several years that have had "PVP", (he actually used that term, not me) and a few have been nerve related.
He seemed somewhat perplexed how a vasectomy could entrap a nerve in the way that I've described it, but it is possible. He didn't feel a hernia, but could not rule one out either.
He's going to have me go in for a nerve block next Tuesday to see if it is a nerve issue. If it immediately clears things up, that should tell him that's it. There is even a chance that this treatment could clear it up for good -- it's really only a diagnostic procedure, but some people have lasting relief from it.
If it is a nerve issue, he said a denervation procedure may be called for, which should have a very high probability clearing things up, but is a much more invasive procedure.
I don't seem to have any real pain in my testicle/epididymis, but it really seems right behind it, almost where they rest when you lay down. And now they don't seem sore to the touch any more than they did before I had the vas, nor swollen like I thought I had on the left side before.

My wife is not very well informed and doesn't understand that it isn't right to force someone into an operation they don't want to have. She occasionally brings it up in company like "I'm still trying to persuade Darryl to get the snip" etc...
Apologies for long post. But what should I do? I don't want the marriage to be wrecked by this.
Simple advice, DO NOT GIVE IN. I did, and will regret the decision the rest of my life.
I've had the oh so rare "complications", pretty much constant pain/discomfort for 15 months now. Sometimes not that bad, sometimes pretty bad. Probably lucky if I have averaged 3-4 hours sleep per night since I've had it done..
Some people have had no problems, good for them. But the risks are not worth it IMO, especially if you have one iota of doubt or are getting pressured.

The procedure?
Mine was hardly painful at all.
Since then?
Life has been small hell.
Far more pain after the fact than the day of and after.
I'm 15+ months post-vas, and have regretted it since about a week after I had it.
Do your homework. Ask yourself this, can you live with life long pain for something that really is not that important? Yes, most don't have it, but more than just "a few" do.

Left side, epididymis, extreme pain the second time I had sex. After than, it has come and gone at times, can't seem to really tell what is going on.
I'm 18 months or so post-vas, and for about 12 of those months, its been pretty bad. Many sleepless nights.
It does seem to have died down somewhat over the past few months, it seems the more active I am, the worse it is also. But I get a very strange sensation now and then with sex, almost can feel something "moving" at the spot of the pain. Even though the doc hasn't really said it, I'm guessing a blowout, and somehow related nerve damage, as I can feel it almost down into my leg somehow, and some leg movements make it worse.
Put me down as one with huge regrets...

2020.09.25 13:41 PlutesGonnaPlute Harmony Hub Keyboard on Apple TV after TVOS 14.0 Update

I’ve been successfully using the Harmony Beta Bluetooth for Apple TV setting for the past couple of years. The TVOS 14 update broke that functionality for me so I set up everything again this time using the Harmony Pro BT Apple TV 4 setting.
After some tinkering I’ve got it working with one major downgrade. The old Bluetooth keyboard from the beta is replaced with Apple’s keyboard and it just sucks by comparison. The beta keyboard had rows of characters and was way faster to use compared to Apple’s single row implementation which takes forever when using the remote to input letters. Is there a way I can get that old keyboard back?

2020.09.25 12:09 skecchi1 MTG Mana Source by u/teryror

In Day9's recent stream with LSV, they referenced Frank Karsten's articles on the topic; I hadn't heard of these before (I only started playing MtG about a year ago, just before Eldraine was released). The most recent one I found (that can be accessed without a CFBPro subscription) is "How Many Colored Mana Sources Do You Need to Consistently Cast Your Spells? A Guilds of Ravnica Update". If you, like me, never read this before, I do recommend you skim this before reading on here, especially if you're interested in casting multi-colored cards.
It seems incredibly useful, but I quickly noticed his tables don't cover casting costs with more than three colored pips. Being a programmer, I took a look at his simulation code to see if I could get that data myself, which led me to notice his numbers are based on the Vancouver Mulligan. Out of curiosity to see how much of a difference it would make, I ported his code to Rust, my programming language of choice, and updated that part. As I was messing around with it, I noticed one final thing: the number of lands you're playing matters, irrespective of their color; but his simulation assumes a fixed number of lands for each deck size!
So my simulation not only tries each number of colored sources, but also each land count between 1/3 and 1/2 the deck size, and each combination of those. That generates a lot of data, so I only show the minimal number of colored sources required to reach consistency (using his definition, i.e. 91% chance of casting one-drops on curve, 92% for two-drops, 93% for three-drops, all the way up to 95% for five-drops and above, all assuming you've hit enough land drops). That is to say, each row in one of my tables correspons to a full table of his.
As for the assumed mulligan strategy:
Note that the simulation "bottoms" cards before deciding whether or not to mull again, and will bottom lands if more than half the cards to be kept are land. I also assume that a card, once bottomed, won't be shuffled back in, and is therefore effectively removed from the deck.
You can find my code here if you're interested. Should you want to run this yourself, I recommend first changing the iteration count to like 100,000. At 1,000,000, this took well over two hours to run on my laptop.
Without further ado, here's the results (if this doesn't show up properly for you, you can also find these at the bottom of the page with my code):

So the way to use these is to first determine how many lands you need, then consult the appropriate row here.
I hope that's helpful to someone!
EDIT: To anyone looking for guidance on the new MDFCs, I'm sorry if the title was misleading, but all I have to offer on that is hearsay; count Pathways as 3/4s of a source of both colors, spell//lands as 2/3rds, is apparently the rule of thumb given in Karsten's new article, but I can't really verify that.

2020.09.25 11:11 zia1997 [Pre Match Conference Thread] Brighton Vs Manchester United

On Squad Fitness:

“Yeah of course we’re a week further down the line, it’s been a good week, some players have been training well and the work on the training ground has been good. Played well against Luton, we’re further down the line like other teams, we needed to be further down the line because last week was disappointing.”

Facing Brighton twice in a row:

“It happened to us last year with Wolves as well, we have to take one game at a time, Premier League first and all our focus is on that one, we had a bad start last week, wanna kick on and play a better game, we played them after the restart, good memories from that game and hopefully we can show something like (that).”

Signing a centre back?

“I think last season proved to us how we can defend at our best, last week wasn’t fantastic, we conceded sloppy goals but I think our defensive record from last season with Eric and Harry how good a partnership they were, Eric is fit again, a big big plus and looking forward to seeing him develop and play more games. We’ve been waiting him to be fit and play more regularly.”

Players leaving?

You know, players are happy when they win well and win games, I am too, it’s not my job to keep them happy, it’s to pick players to get results, and up to them to be fit and be ready when called upon.”

Transfer Updates:

As I’ve said so many times I’m very confident in my players and if and when something happens with ins and outs we’ll update you. In football you can’t predict too much but for me we’re just working on getting better, my focus is solely on the game, can’t be thinking any other way. Then we can talk again.”

Vdb-Bruno-Pog together?

I think good players can play well tomorrow but also Scot, Nemanja and Fred are good players, so competition for places, lots of combinations, different systems, so we’ll see them together at some point.”

Smalling Update:

“Different things need to happen, then. So let’s wait and see if there’s that change let’s see what happens if and when the transfer window closes and what happens to Chris.”

Breaking defensive teams?:

“I wasn’t happy with the game against Palace, we weren’t ready, not ready to play at intensity we needed. The runs weren’t there.
“After the restart in June and July we took big, big strides. Palace was a very disappointing one, but I am still confident. We need more imagination (than last week) that is for sure.

Should Premier League clubs help fund lower league sides?

“I think the situation we’re in, the virus is so difficult to predict what’s gonna happen and when the wait is going up and the fans are coming in it’s worse for football and society in general but I am worried for League 1 and League 2 teams and lower teams, of course but Premier League teams are all losing money and hopefully we can get back and football will be normal and we won’t lose too many clubs. How we can do it? We need clubs locally. We’ve seen Bury, Macclesfield, we’ve seen Wigan struggle.”

Sqaud Update:

“Eric is fit again, a big big plus and looking forward to seeing him develop and play more games.”

2020.09.25 09:11 The_Real_Donglover My 6 Months of Progress Through "A Year to Learn Japanese"

I'm back! 2 months ago I made a post about my progress after 4 months through u/SuikaCider's novel-length study plan/guidelines, and 2 months before then I made a 2 month progress update. If you want to use his plan, it can be found in the sub's resources, as well as if you go back to my original 2 month update. I am back to report that I am indeed still following this insane study plan, despite an already extremely busy schedule. Here's the run-down if you are new:
I've been studying using Genki 1 + 2, Nihongo Shark's 2200 Kanji Deck (15/day), a core 2K deck (10/day), studying Genki vocab on Memrise, and finally a mix of immersion including Rilakuma and Kaoru, Terrace House, and a lot of city pop. At my last update I was 4 chapters from finishing Genki 2 (July 25th). In the time since I have made the following "hard" progress:
-Finished 2200 kanji deck (August 25th)
-Finished with 1,470 vocab sentence cards out of 2,007
-Finished Genki 2 first week of September
My last post caused a ton of confusion in regards to the Kanji, so let me be clear: I have only been learning the English meaning of the kanji, and gradually acquiring the readings as I immerse and learn new vocab, and the last 2 months have been really successful in that regard. Since finishing the Kanji deck, I have recently upped my vocab deck to 15 cards per day so I can finish that as I go through Tobira sometime in a little less than 40 days. This is slower than prescribed in the document, but I think this is totally acceptable since my combined vocab (from Genki books, first chapter of Tobira, Core2K, and immersion) is definitely north of 2,000, though I can't put a hard number to it considering overlap. Since finishing Genki 2, I spent all my study time immersing, and the experience has been immeasurably significant. I started going through chapter 1 of Tobira on September 21st, and I plan on finishing tomorrow or the next day, and leaving a couple days before each chapter. Overall, in the past 2 months I've probably averaged 2 hours a day of active study.
I should also note before continuing that I don't have the Japanese IME keyboard on this computer so please excuse my romaji.
A Note on Motivation:
August was a rough month, and I found getting through the end of Genki 2 an almost unbearable sludge; a responsibility, really. I regret having missed a handful of isolated days of Anki decks. The monotony of doing the same thing for the 5th month in a row had taken its toll. Thankfully, as I was hoping, and others had reassured me, when I started immersing it had a visceral change on my motivation. That being that I found a refreshed and recalibrated reason to continue. I have had probably the most fun studying in the past 20 days than any other time during my studies. This is in spite of me starting school, helping a friend with building a small business, working a remote part-time job, and various other tiny things that inevitably come up and take time. I have to study Japanese every day.
SuikaCider at one point describes a series of stages that he says one will go through when studying. When I went on to immersion, I felt the world open up and become clear and hopeful. I figured this experience was me crossing the "nope threshold," and it feels so good. I actually feel like I have taken off the training wheels.
Kanji + Vocab
Not much to say here. After finishing the 2200 Kanji, I haven't seen a single Kanji that I didn't know. I will have to eventually, but it hasn't happened yet and I've been so happy for that.
I've considered sentence mining, but I think that it would be too much time spent towards vocab review if I did that. I will finish my current deck, and then start mining with immersion. I am also still learning vocab through Tobira (which thankfully actually uses all of its vocab in the readings. More on this in the next section). I don't recall if it was Matt vs. Japan or SuikaCider who said that vocab review should only be a small portion of study time (apologies, I don't remember the exact percentage), but it is at the moment the least likeable part of my study, despite it once being the most likeable, so I don't want to overload myself in that respect.
Tobira:
Tobira is exactly the breath of fresh air I needed in my textbook study. It really feels like an adult book. It was a little intimidating at first, but I probably waited a week with it, just figuring out how it works, the structure, etc. Now I am comfortable with what I will do, which is probably similar to my practice with Genki. I will read the grammar points one day, then wait 24 hours, and look at them again. Just by the nature of waiting and letting it sit in my subconscious, I will often return to grammar points with a greater understanding and troublesome points will "click." I will learn the new vocab words through a Memrise deck. Then, do the readings. Then, do the worksheets/activities. I actually have a partner this time around to do pair work with (more on this later). I plan on taking about a week on each chapter (equivalent to Genki), though it seems like there are more grammar points, so this may very well extend to give me time to digest the grammar points. I also quite love the specificity of Tobira. Something Genki doesn't do well (or at all) is distinguish all the exact types of words there are. Tobira goes into almost too much detail. Something like explaining Verbal Nouns, or giving even the slightest clue of grammar point or context to words that it introduces far too early (baai, tame, etc.). Many of my mistakes have been because Genki just kinda gives you words without really telling you what it is, with no usage or context, and it's impossible to really use it correctly.
I know that SuikaCider recommends picking up the Real Japanese books. I would certainly like to get them if I find myself wanting to move on to some more stuff in the next couple months, but I figured that I am content with my combination of Tobira and current immersion.
Nevertheless, at a pace of a chapter a week, I should finish Tobira in about 3.5 months (in January), but I am fine with this taking longer. At this point, my true goal I think is to confidently be N3 by 12 months, which I think is reasonable and accounts for some slow down in progress. If I get farther, cool. I really see that final 2.5 months as just having fun with the language. I should also acknowledge (if my implication is not clear), that I will be learning Japanese far after 12 months. In the document there are plenty of stages of input that I still need to progress through. I am still no where near being ready for later stages, like novels.
Daily Routine:
After finishing Genki 2, I took 2 days off. After that, I went all in on immersion. Every day my schedule looks something like this:
-20-30 minutes of vocab/kanji review
-10 minutes of Oshu Taigu's Heart of Buddha YouTube channel
This was recommended in SuikaCider's original comment. I only use it to "warm up" my listening comprehension. I probably understand 30% of it (maybe more, but he often speaks quickly), but I really enjoy this channel. From what I understand he basically just answers reader questions/concerns. I usually can only pick up general topics, but I really feel that, from my basic understanding, he is very charismatic and insightful. I really look forward to understanding him better. He also speaks really clearly.
-5 minutes of In Living, Japanese Slow Life YouTube channel
This was recommended to me the other day. It's essentially a minimalist youtuber who just talks about their hitorigurashi apartment life in Japan, describing their day to day. It's slow, but still native, and the vocab is not quite reachable. Still worth watching.
-1 episode of Shirokuma's cafe
Yessssssss! I love this show. I've seen probably 6 episodes, but it's certainly easier to understand than Rilakuma and Kaoru. Perfect show for after Genki 2. It's easily understandable with only Japanese subtitles, but still is quite a challenge (depending on the episode and topic). Something that I have learned is that I need to be okay with not understanding things. I am not going to stop every 2 seconds to figure out every word I don't know. This show is understandable just enough (probably 70-85%) without needing to pause things (except things I'm curious about).
-2 or 3 NHK News Easy articles
It's so funny how when looking at NHK News Easy even 2 months ago it was fucking intimidating. I literally didn't understand any of it. Now, it's the perfect reading material. I understand north of 90% of every article without furigana, which is honestly amazing. And I actually am reading about real Japanese news. This is also a perfect resource because it is easing me into using J-J dictionaries. Certain difficult words are given Japanese definitions, but the definitions are hit or miss, as they generally are more complex than the general reading. I use the Yomichan extension otherwise.
-2 LingQ Mini Stories
I think this was one of the recommended resources provided in the document. I'm not sure who made them, but they are pretty akin to the Tadoku graded readers in terms of complexity. Very easy to understand, but good practice to reinforce current grammavocab.
-Short podcast episode (probably Learn Japanese with Noriko)
Admittedly haven't listened to many of these yet, but I love it. The transcripts on her site make it a perfect learning resource.
-Tobira
Speaking + Other Immersion:
I believe around September 9th, against all my preconceived notions and anti-CCP bias, I downloaded Hello Talk. The app is considerably better than it's made out to be. It's an amazing learning resource. There are many many Japanese English learners, and you will always have your posts be corrected. Many of the private chat/call features are really amazing. The correction system is excellent. As a guy, even I have had an old creeper hop in the DMs. I can't imagine how it is for women, but there are plenty of men and women on the app, so it must not be unbearable for most people on there. Either way, it's easy to just delete and block people. Before Hello talk, forcing myself to write a paragraph every day was hell. This makes it easy and fun to do. Actually interacting with Japanese people is incredibly exciting. Within a day or two of having the app, I joined a zoom call, and have found a really amazing group of language learners from all over the world (mostly English-Japanese and some Japanese-English speakers). I'm so happy to zoom call with them every day and just hang out and have so many common interests. Occasionally, we will have an hour of Nihongo Jikan in which we speak Japanese with each other for an hour, or a day of just using Japanese in the group chat. Without nerves, I'm able to produce Japanese by text significantly quicker than talking.
I've also started iTalki lessons. I just had my 3rd 30 minute lesson today. It's incredibly difficult, and I don't speak as well with a tutor compared to when speaking with the Hello Talk group because I get so damn nervous, but it's so exciting at the same time. After every session I'm like "damn, get me back in there coach." Unfortunately, money is a limitation for me. I think that my lessons will get easier once I start returning with 2 of my tutors that I really like and get comfortable with them. To give you an idea of what my on the spot speaking ability is, I recorded a bit of my session today. It's a little embarrassing because my speaking ability is so lacking compared to everything else, but here it is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5Vb2sxZbak&ab_channel=TristenWilbers
In the next 2 months my biggest goal is to get confident speaking Japanese. In my Hello Talk group there are people who know less than me in every aspect, but sound much more fluent than me because of their confidence when speaking. I would like to bring my speaking speed up to my impromptu texting speed.
Not mentioned in this post is all of the passive immersion, whether it is listening to a lot of awesome Japanese music, tv, or movies. Before I forget, if you want to follow me on Hello Talk, my name is @ ok_tristenwilber
Final Thoughts:
All 3 of my tutors have said that they were shocked at my progress, and cannot believe I've only been learning for 6 months, much less having only been speaking for less than a month. My progress is fast, certainly, but my insecurity is proving to be a battle. I am pretty disappointed in my speaking ability at the moment, but I am confident in it improving, provided I put the hours in. I am so happy for Japanese to be a part of my every day life, and I'm so excited for the possibilities. See you in 2 months.

2020.09.25 09:05 LdHWotton Rolling back an update

Hi gang!
I've been hit by this boot loop bug that's afflicting older Pixels who update to Android 11, and it's kinda bricking my phone. 2 days in a row now, my phone has crashed at 0630 and gone into a boot loop for hours. Yesterday I went through the Support process, and they assured me it was a hardware issue after a factory reset etc. After it suddenly started working again and I got (most of) my stuff set back up I was happy to put it behind me, but then exactly the same thing happened this morning ,and before going back to them I did some googling to find out that it's a known bug with the update.
Basically, they told me that since I'm out of warranty, it doesn't matter that it's a known issue with the update they pushed and I need to pay for their authorised repair partner to fix it. Imagine a manufacturer sold you a car, then smashed in the windows to test the structural integrity and billed you for the repairs.
tl;dr I'm not here (just) to rant - I'm hoping that my phone will eventually boot as it did yesterday and I can roll back to Android 10 until things are more stable with 11. Does anyone know how to do that on a 2?

2020.09.25 07:27 SHINYARTICUNO7413 Practice Mode

I feel practice mode is too barren. The most you can do is test how much damage you can do to an unmoving, unresponsive target. And there's only two targets on top of that. No way to test out your skills in different environments.
I feel they should add a way to spawn some form of enemy. Even if it's just one of those dumb bots that are in the first match you play. It's better than an unmoving target.
On top of my previous statement, a way to choose what gauntlets they have. Maybe even down to the rune and talents. And while we're on the topic of gauntlets. A way to change your class during practice mode instead of having to go through the tedious process of exiting the practice room, go through a loading screen, select the class you want, then go through yet another loading screen. I wouldn't mind if we still have to go through a loading screen, at least we wouldn't have to exit out every single time. And same with the talents. What if I want to try different talent combos to see how they interact? I have to go through the process all over again.
Another thing, the only way to get scrolls are through the mana vaults scattered around the map (which I've never understood the purpose of them being there honestly). They should have the scrolls next to the level up ball, just sitting in a row (bonus points if they make it an instant claim). And maybe a way to get rid of a talent charge incase you want to test how it would be through different stages of a match.
And, yes, I understand that this is a lot for a newish game, so I say they try to add each of these slowly over the span of a year or two, to allow them to still work on other things.
TL/DR: Just update the practice room so it feels more like practice rather than a room with random stuff.

2020.09.25 06:36 sheebacat Healing is amazing, if very messy.

Well, this is the most recent update on my liver disease.
I had my two year follow up with my doctor, and I am officially free of Cirrhosis and Fibrosis. In two years I went from stage four fibrosis (early cirrhosis) to moderate fatty liver. I've lost 50 lb, and I have at least 40 to go. I am still addicted to sugar, but by quitting booze and Rexulti (an antidepressant that triggered a lot of weight gain) I've been able to make huge steps towards a healthier body. I did take up smoking cigars when COVID hit, so now I have to quit those. 🤦‍♀️
Sometimes if I go too crazy on the doughnuts a couple days in a row, I will still wake up with some pain in my right abdomen. And I still get a fair amount of swelling, particularly in my hands, pretty much every day. But overall, I feel so, so much better.
In April 2018 I set a quit date of June 1, 2018. I quit drinking that day and haven't looked back. It's been so, so worth it. If I go out with my friends I don't have to worry about whether or not I'm going to embarrass myself. I don't wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety, or have to wander around a parking lot trying to figure out where my car is. I still lose my keys all the time, but at least it's not because I was drunk. 🤣

2020.09.25 06:07 ekevinn CLIMATE CATWALK NTC Season 4

INTRODUCTION
Greetings, Splatoon fashion lovers! Welcome to the very first week of Next Top Cephalopod 4, a fashion based competition (Don't know what NTC is? Click here for what we're about and our rules!) where 13 stylish contestants compete for a grand prize of $100 and an exclusive flair on /Splatoon.
In the last month or so, we had our registration post pinned in this subreddit to find some new squid fashion fans to compete in the next season of our competition. Over the last weekend, we picked out the best of the best, and we launched our season with 13 amazing contestants! We also announced the very first outfit-making challenge, Climate Catwalk, and the contestants have been hard at work to create some super fresh outfits this week.
CLIMATE CATWALK
For our first week, we're giving thanks to Mother Nature, with Climate Catwalk! Since the entire season is based around the theme of nature, we thought this would be the best way to kick things off. Contestants were challenged to make an outfit representing a character from a climate of their choice. Will we see an outfit meant for a frigid, polar environment? Or an outfit representing someone who thrives off of warm, dry weather? With lots of free range, there are plenty of possibilities for some different outfits this week.
Below, we have 13 amazing outfits for you all to vote on. Two of the most highest voted contestants will face each other in a Bo3 Splatzones match to decide the winner of this week! And since its our very first week of Season 4, we've decided that no contestants will be eliminated.
Now, without further ado, let's take a look at the outfits this week!
Sea creatures, ink your turf...
And may the best Cephalopod WIN!
ANONYMOUS VOTING: Since Season 3, we have decided to present every single outfit to be anonymous. Each week a contestant will be simply reffered to as their outfit title during voting, and not by their names. Anonymous voting will prevent against favoritism and bias towards certain contestants. If you'd personally like to know the contestants in the competition, feel free to join our discord and meet them there, or, alternatively, check this voting poll again a week from now, as we will update each outfit title with the actual contestant's name, since voting will have already been closed by then.

  • Polar Photoshoot, Warm Soul Link
    "Hey guys! Just got back to my hotel room, thought I'd share some cute pics I took today with my fave inkling gal <33 I love the weather over here, it's a much colder climate than back home but that means I get to wear some really cute clothes!!! I'd like to thank Annaki for giving me their new light blue beret for free, it's so cute :3 And I'd like to thank Forge for this ADORABLE leather fleece jacket!! I feel so cozy wearing it, it's like a blanket but fashionable haha :)
    We went up to the towers at dawn today to see the sights before the Turf War game started, it was a bit icy but I was careful, promise!! Then we went down to the square where I went to the freshest shops in in the city! I met so many of you there. I'm so grateful to have fans as caring as you all are <3 Started to snow a bit while I was taking my pics, hoping to do another winter photo shoot soon before I return so stay tuned!
    Cold can't bother you if you just keep your heart warm.. <3"
  • ~Arid~ Link
  • High Altitude, High Fashion Link
    Biome: Tundra
    This squid lives in the cold tundra near the mountains, where the UV is strong, the air is thin, and the temperature is oh so cold! Why camouflage in the snow and trees when you can stand out, like the mountains themselves!
  • Sunny Sass Link
    Born in the subtropics, Kiki's always loved to sit back and chill at the beach. Her sunny personality fits her sunny origins, and despite her brash attitude, she's the most loyal squidkid anybody could know. Though she no longer lives in her birthplace, her fond memories of it motivate her to let it live on through her fashion choices. Whether it be in the Square or during an intense Rainmaker battle, you'll always catch this inkling wearing short sleeves, a pair of sandals, and the occasional visor. Not even weather is enough to faze her! In fact, she's a bit stubborn to a fault...
  • Temperate Climate Link
    This girl in a temperate climate is ready to show off her newly bought clothes at the party tonight! It's still a little cold though so she has to wear two layers of clothes. She also has new stylish shoes and a cool headband. Along with the ponytail will she probably be one of the freshest kids there!
  • Tundra Link
    ”It looks like I’m in a bit of a jam... Growing up, I only ever had clothing to protect my skin because of the bitter cold, but I don’t seem to have much of anything else! Good thing it’s cold here... else I’d be cooked! I’m not quite used to a warm temperature yet... Growing up in the tundra, it’s yet that we’ve experienced warmth. I don’t think I want to experience it just yet. It’s safe to say I have a love for blue, whether the snowflakes I see fall daily have a light tint or my clothing— even my favorite weapon for gosh sake!”
  • Pure Luck Link
    This outfit was made with a lot of pure luck! It actually has a story behind it! I was browsing the gear list a few minutes after the theme was announced and then found it: the perfect centerpiece. The Whale-knit Sweater. Instantly, I knew that this was it. However, what goes with a sweater, especially a beige one? After a lot of almost-ideas and mishaps, I found something interesting in the store: a Knit Cap! It looked perfect with the sweater and with the Octoling Girl hair. By then, it was Wednesday and I still needed shoes. I couldn't find anything (though I had some recommendations) and I was freaking out! Again, I found some boots in the store. I cringed at the hot pink but decided it would do. I tried to make a snowy landscape but the in-battle photos just didn't cut it. However, eventually I found what I needed with two golden shots. Now I'm here!
  • Colourful Like The Others Link
    ”My favourite part of the rainforest are the colours, all the animals and creatures are so bright! Everything from the birds in the sky to the frogs in the water, they all have something beautiful about them! I've decided to take a page from their book while on my trip to the rainforest, picking a bright and unusual red!
  • Temperate Forest Link
    The serenity and laid-back feel of temperate forest camping is my main focus of this outfit. The Jungle Hat keeps me protected from the gentle rays of the sun while the FA-11 Jacket keeps me warm all day from any breeze. Equipped with durable hiking boots and a portable Explosher stove, I am ready to venture into the wild.
  • Marine Blues Link
    Man, everyone seems to hate living by the coast, with the constant rain and cold weather. But I love it! Nothing beats splashing in puddles and dancing in the rain!
  • Flower Frolic Link
    spring air
    tastes like newly melted snow,
    warm sun
    lets the grass and leaves regrow.
    a morning jog
    as bees land on blossoms new,
    it's a fresh season
    time to change as the trees do.
  • Waikiki Link
    "Alone. It was something Monica was accustomed to. Prior to the Great Turf War, she was the only markswoman to graduate in her class. In her sniper's perch on the beach, she remained in solitude.
    "Alone. It's exactly how one feels when they're splatted. Respawn points existed, sure, but in those few moments in between, one is in the ultimate state of loneliness. Monica had known that feeling for far too long.
    "A slayer had flanked their way behind the Squidbeak Splatoon on one especially arduous leg of their campaign. No amount of curling bombs or tap shots could stop the ambush. The thing is, when your respawn point gets doused in water from a modified Octo Shower, it tends to not work as advertised.
    "Seconds passed. Then, minutes. Monica realized something was wrong, and after a few moments of internal torment in the smothering darkness, she accepted her fate. Thanks to the tinkering of one horseshoe crab, though, a light eventually shone through. The academy had been converted into an art school; basic training was now a summer camp.
    "Monica looked up from her the photo she had scanned and saved to her new piece of technology; though, she had reason to smile as she got up. A familiar face had come to visit her. The Captain saluted her, and she returned the gesture, no longer alone."
HOW TO VOTE
To vote for your favorite outfits, you must select your top 3 outfits of the week, and rank them from first place to third place. To do this in the voting poll, simply drag the outfit number from the left column to the right column, into slots 1-3. Ranking them first means you think they were the absolute best and should win the week, while ranking them second or third means that the outfits were still good, but maybe not as deserving. Afterwards, make sure to select the “X” button on the remaining outfit numbers within the left column. If you don’t follow this (i.e. rank all 13 contestants instead of your top 3, or only ranking 1-2 contestants) your response will be deleted. That is all!
After looking at all the outfits for this week, which contestants are your favorite? Vote for your top picks that you want to see win this week!

2020.09.25 05:29 RunYouCleverGirl_ Laptop powering off and screen going black randomly

I have a Dell XPS 9560. About a month ago it would randomly power itself off. It wasn't doing any sort of intensive work. This happened while on battery or plugged in. Now I was streaming something and three times in a row the screen randomly went black and I had to restart. I've done a hardware diagnostic, scan disk, and updated the drivers. No luck. Any ideas?

2020.09.24 22:30 teryror [Discussion] I expanded upon Frank Karsten's resources on building mana bases

2020.09.24 19:52 treatmesubj Cube functions: how to dynamically fill cells with members of a column?

I've learned that I can convert a pivot table with a DataModel as its source to formulas via OLAP. This is great because it means I have formulated/calculated columns next to it, which I can use to sort. However, I've found that pivot-converted-to-formulas isn't really dynamic from a members perspective. Of course, when the table which the pivot is based on changes, the existing members update values, but sometimes members come and go and that part of the pivot-converted-to-formulas is not dynamic to reflect that so, I end up with N/A values for old members, and no new members being added.
I've found that I could sort of hackishly get members of a column into Excel cells in a spreadsheet column with this pattern:
=CUBERANKEDMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[Query1].[PLFM_NM].children",ROW(A1))
Is there a better way to fill a spreadsheet column with members of a cube without creating N/As beyond the last index-member of the column?

2020.09.24 19:49 NowWithVitamin_R Reverse Sheep: The contest where prediction meets game theory. Play week 4 here!

This week's questions

Three reminders: Remember to give a player's name if the question asks for it. "North Carolina QB" does NOT count if you mean Sam Howell. There's no official deadline to submit answers, but if you pick a team/player whose game has already kicked off, your answer will be marked incorrect.

The /CFB Reverse Sheep master spreadsheet (scores, standings, and more)

Hey! I updated the Record Book tab, which may be of interest to some veteran players.
Please double-check your score... you have a week to bring scoring errors to my attention by posting here or PMing me. You can find a list of all the responses under the "Week 3 Raw" tab.
Week Participants Average Median
1 162 101.45 99.5
2 323 141.72 141
3 290 167.66 170
To get into the top 10% last week, you needed a score of 119 or under. After ties and duplicates were accounted for, 23 new players qualified for the postseason, bringing us to 71 for the season.

Week 3 Honors

timmodonuts finished in the top 10% for a third week in a row and nabbed a postseason bonus.
Five players finished in the top 10% for a second week in a row and will earn the bonus if they can do it again this week:
There were eleven aces in week 3 but nobody has gotten more than one yet.
And finally, your top 10 in the season-long standings:
  1. timmodonuts (265) (LW: 1)
  2. B0yWonder (274) (LW: NR)
  3. pittpost (297) (LW: NR)
  4. QMaroonQ (301) (LW: NR)
  5. funforyourlife (302) (LW: NR)
  6. alagomar (313) (LW: NR)
  7. blackaddermrbean (323) (LW: 10)
  8. rat-again (324) (LW: NR)
  9. (tie) aewest (333) (LW: NR)
  10. (tie) spoofdorts (333) (LW: 7)

I missed Weeks 1-3! Can I still play?

Absolutely! While season-long standings are maintained, you can earn a berth to the bowl season edition by placing in the top 10% of any individual week, regardless of prior or future participation. Whenever you miss a week, your score for the season-long standings will tally as if you answered each question incorrectly.

What is Reverse Sheep?

Reverse Sheep is a futures prediction game where the goal is to come up with answers that are both correct and unique. Each week features five questions about players, teams, point totals, and anything else I cook up.
Think of Reverse Sheep like the opposite of Family Feud. In Family Feud, you would want to be a "sheep" and follow the crowd, identifying the most popular answer. Reverse Sheep is the opposite: You want to give the least popular answer that is still correct. If you provide a correct answer, you score points equal to how many people guessed your answer. If your answer is incorrect, your score is the sum of the number of people who guessed the most popular answer PLUS the total number of unique correct answers given. Lowest score wins.

I'm confused. How about an example?

Sure. Let's say one of the questions is: "Name n FBS running back who will rush for 125+ yards this week." Imagine 40 people are playing, and their answers break down like this, with the number of yards that player actually winds up rushing for in [brackets].
  • Chuba Hubbard (13 respondents) [168 rushing yards]
  • Travis Etienne (10) [105]
  • Najee Harris (7) [133]
  • Javian Hawkins (3) [26]
  • Rakeem Boyd (2) [126]
  • Kylin Hill (2) [190]
  • Jerrion Ealy (1) [65]
  • Pooka Williams (1) [49]
  • Zamir White (1) [159]
Everyone who picked a running back that eclipsed 125 yards scores points equal to how many guessed their answer. So the thirteen Hubbard pickers get 13 points, the seven Harris pickers get 7, the two Boys pickers and the two Hill pickers get 2, and the sole person who picked Zamir White gets 1 point, an ace. An ace is the best possible outcome as it means you were the only person to pick a particular correct answer.
Everyone else who picked incorrectly is tagged with 18 points. That's the number of the most popular pick (13) plus the number of correct responses given (5). Again, you are trying for the lowest score possible.

Bonuses

Throughout the course of the season, you'll be able to earn bonuses for top performances. A bonus will allow you to give two responses to a question in the postseason, giving you two chances at a correct answer (if both answers are correct, the lower score will count). Here's how to earn one:
  • Placing in the top 3 (not 3%) of a week
  • Placing in the top 10 (not 10%) of the season-long standings
  • Placing in the top 10% for three or more consecutive weeks (streaks cannot overlap; so 1-3 and 4-6 would count as two streaks, but 1-3 and 2-4 would not)
  • Picking two or more Aces in a single week
  • Finish in the top 3 of Aces for the season (3+ aces required to qualify)
  • Longest streak of top 10% finishes
  • Participate every week
  • Beat the host (weeks TBD)
There is no limit to the number of bonuses that may be earned.

How do I win?

There are two ways in which you can qualify for the postseason, which will be the bowl season. You need to either finish in the top 10% of players for any one week, or make the top 10% of scores across the entire season. Anyone who misses a week will be charged the highest score of the week, as if they picked every question incorrectly. Even players who don't discover the game until later in the season can still play and qualify for the postseason without disrupting the season-long standings. However you qualify, there will be a Bowl Season edition, and the winner of that will be crowned the Reverse Sheep champion. All scores will be reset to 0 for the Bowl Season.
Note that the top 10% is a hard cutoff, rounded to the nearest whole number. If 227 people play (23 playoff spots awarded) but 8 of the top 23 have already earned playoff berths, then only 15 new postseason berths would be earned that week. In case of a tie, all players tied for the last spot would get a postseason berth.

What do I win?

All prizes will be awarded in the form of a donation to the charity of the winner's choice. There are prizes for finishing in the top 10 of the season-long standings as well as the top three of the postseason.
  • Winner, bowl season/postseason edition - $25
  • Second place, bowl season/postseason edition - $15
  • Third place, bowl season/postseason edition - $10
  • Gold medal (1st place) in the regular season standings - $25
  • Silver medal (2nd place) in the regular season standings - $15
  • Bronze medal (3rd place) in the regular season standings - $10
  • Runner-Up (4th-10th place) in the regular season standings - $5

What if I want to change an answer after I've submitted the Google Form?

If for any reason you need to change an answer (injury, suspension, changed your mind), just PM me. As long as it's before kickoff of both your original pick and the one you are changing to, I'll note the change. Make sure you get a PM back from me to confirm, otherwise bug me again if it's been 36 or more hours.

2020.09.24 15:29 james_h_3010 Asking a v-text-field if it is valid

[EDIT: I've updated the question for clarity]
I have a CodePen at CodePen Home Checking Validation of VTextField-Play. CodePen code is below.
Inside of the updateTitle method, I would like to be able to check to see whether or not the value is valid. The reason is I need to run some custom logic when the value changes and what is executed will depend upon whether or not the value is valid.
I can see that v-text-field has a valid and validationState property. Is it possible to access either property inside of updateTitle?
Inside of updateTitle, I can access the rules assigned to the field and run them myself against the value, but considering that this has already been done, I would like to avoid the extra work if possible.
HTML ```

```
JS: ``` new Vue({ el: '#app', vuetify: new Vuetify(), data () { return { title: 'Preliminary report', rules: { required: value => !!value 'Required.', counter: value => value.length <= 10 'Max 10 characters' } } },
methods: { updateTitle( value ) { console.log( "update", value ); } } }) ```
2020.09.24 08:35 happypuppy100 Any Good Offline Spreadsheet Options?
Libreoffice is significantly more updated (in quality) than Openoffice, said by others
Looks like the problem: is that there are many outdated sites, or many sites with outdated info that lists Openoffice as a good option
Spreadsheet apps listed on various sites seems to show there's absolutely no good options for this besides these 2.... (or maybe there are? )
Needs
Preferred, not needs:
Main requirement is not online
Non-deal breaking Problems with Onlyoffice:
Thoughts on Onlyoffice relevant to this post? Or are there any better options in 2020?
Looking for helpful links / info pertinent to post. Thanks!
Non-options
There's this thing call "WPS Office Software" but it was made in China and as we all know that is untrusted given everything in the media about China
There's this quick spreadsheet maker call "ethercalc.net" where you:
Don't think there's anything else like that for spreadsheets/tables (or even for anything else like pastebin text that is also continuously editable since pastebin is not continuously editable and I don't think anything else is)
When comparing "python + Jupiter notebooks + pandas" to libre = "For everything < 250 rows libre office calc is good enough and definitely faster."
Please recommend what you've used or know about. Thanks!
2020.09.24 08:11 criticalham Starships Revised: Update!
Salutations, skitterfolk!
I'm back with the first big-ish update for Starships Revised. If you want to just jump right into it, go check out the new PDF and ship sheets (there's a rundown of changes in the updates section on page 5):
Starships Revised v1.5 PDF
Auto-Fill Ship Sheet
(If you're using the old version of the sheet, you'll want to make a copy of the new version and re-enter your stuff.)
What is this?
In case you missed it first time, Starships Revised is an attempt to rethink starship combat from its core to fix the multitude of, uh, "awkward quirks" in Starfinder's core system. If you've ever thought starship combat was too boring, too slow, or just too hard to relearn the one or two times per Adventure Path chapter Paizo remembers starships even exist, then I urge you to check it out! I go over the reasoning for my changes in the document and in my last post.
New Stuff!
In any case, I've been getting a lot of kind messages asking if I intend to add new content from the relatively-new Starship Operations Manual. The answer is...yes! That's what this update is! Sort of. SOM has a lot of stuff in it, and I've been a bit limited on time lately. So instead of trying to port everything over all at once, I tried to go for the easier stuff to start with.
Here's a quick rundown of what's new in this version:
The spreadsheet got a bit of an overhaul, too. Most of it is pretty self-explanatory, I think, but one subtle change is that you should be able to safely edit the ~secret~ database tabs without things breaking now (though you'll need to unhide them first). I also added some "custom" rows (the orange cells) for weapons and expansion bays, for people who need to do more homebrewy starship gear.
Next Time?
So obviously that's not everything that's in Starship Operations Manual. Here're my general thoughts about the stuff that's missing:
Whew. Anyway, I guess that's all the info I've got for now. Questions, comments, and feedback are all very welcome! And thanks to everyone who has messaged me to ask for updates or to tell me that you've been enjoying the system! You have no idea how much you folks make me happy.
'til next time, Starfinders!
2020.09.24 03:54 fazik93 2020 Week 3 Consolidated Start 'Em, Sit 'Em - (FantasyPros, NFL, CBS, BleacherReport, SI, Sporting News)
*NEW* ADDED ACCURACY GRADES!
I added a new row above each source to show how many of the projections they have gotten right so far. The way I judged it is if they were within 1 point of the Yahoo projected points. If a player gets injured or does not play I don't count that in the total. You can also find the total season count of all projections in the source table below.
Welcome to Week 3! We've made it through Bloody Sunday. This week will prove most important to see how our bench will perform as they will be pushed into the starting lineup.
How You Can Help Contribute To This Post:
I've noticed that in this post (and across most posts in fantasyfootball) most of the comments ask for starting advice for your roster and there are already dedicated Index articles to answer those questions. Instead, focus on picking up/dropping players, ROS performance, fliers, matchup rankings, trends, etc. those will help out everyone instead of just your team. Also, the mods have locked this post before when the comments fill up with things that should go into the INDEX posts.
If you see any discrepancies between this post and the source articles please comment or upvote comments to get them to the top. I'll add updates to the title post to fix any errors or add updates.
2020.09.24 01:14 ThaliaHolmesMtF Update on how my transition is going
Honestly I'm not one hundred percent sure what this update is for, or who it is for. I just wanna write some stuff down about being trans and see how it goes.
For reference, I am 16, pre HRT, live in the UK and came out as trans 8 months ago now, although first began to doubt my cisgender identity in June 2019.
From what I started off like at the start of my transition to who I am now feels remarkable. If we ignore my family at home, all of my friends and peers at the all boys school I go to call me Thalia instead of my deadname, most of the teachers I have for my lessons do aswell, and I feel like a female more than ever, which is a weird statement to make. My mental image of myself has morphed into someone who although I'm currently not, I know I will be in the future.
I'm also getting more confident in my clothing and choosing what to wear and feeling comfortable in them clothes, although dresses and skirts may not be my style (I've ordered another skirt to try, but that's arriving in a few months) I feel a lot happier wearing crop tops, fishnets and the like, and that's made me happier! My hair has also grown a substantial amount, with it now being most of the way down my neck! I've also started using female public bathrooms whenever I can, and so far I am on a streak of around 15 times in a row without failing! My parents yelled at me whenever I did it around them so Im always doing it when they arent around.
However, not everything is positive. My parents are kind of supportive and kind of not? They dont use the correct name or pronouns (that's for my entire family, especially my stepdad and dad, my dad deadnamed me 251 times in 12 hours so) and with the law in the UK stating that I have to have 2 years of identification from my GP to even start transitioning, and although I've pretty much knew I was trans for 16 months now, I still have to wait another 2 years until I can start HRT (unless I'm reading the law wrong which is entirely possible.)
For now I just wanna make it through to HRT, one day I'll have the body that matches that image in my head and I will be happy, and with my partner to support me I know I can do it.
Thank you for reading 💖💖💖
After winning 10 Retro Bowl titles in a row on dynamic difficulty 16, the game just isn't challenging enough any more. Here are some challenge ideas to spice things up before the supposed update comes out.
I've won with the first 3. Will try #4 next. Post your own variants below.
